Visitors enter the space greeted by the sight, sound, and possible scent of a rainstorm, which leads them to the river and beaver area and the start of the watershed. Water is present and flowing throughout the exhibit, eventually concluding at the farming story. In the first room, a marvelous American Chestnut Tree is a towering centerpiece, that wows from a distance and delights up close, full of interactives and discoverables. “Hidden finds” throughout all the exhibits spark visitor curiosity and exploration. Live animal tanks can be found within immersive scenes, like in the beaver lodge and rock outcroppings. Living plant walls are present in both rooms, a natural backdrop on the pathway. The flowing river guides visitors toward the second room where it finds its mouth in the basin of Lake Lanier. The story of the watershed connects to every exhibit piece, including the meadows and farmland located in this room. Granite outcroppings border the water features and rock mounds create a space for the invertebrates and herps to reside.
